A couple years ago, I was introduced to the best essential oils I’d ever used. After using essential oils for a while to clean around the house, I was ready to learn more about the therapeutic benefits of essential oils and start using them to simplify our healthcare.
Not long after making the decision to start using essential oils more, I found doTERRA essential oils through a business coach whose work I admired.
After saving up for a couple of months, I purchased the Family Wellness Kit and the rest is history. I fell in love with the oils as soon as I opened the first bottle and I’ve been using them on a daily basis since then.
If you have a tight budget and really want to try essential oils, you don’t have to buy every single oil out there. But I do recommend saving money for doTERRA because:
- They can be used for cooking, cleaning and keeping your family healthy (they are certified 100% pure and the only oils I will use on my kids)
- They’re safe, effective and work FAST
- You can buy individual oils or kits, based on your budget and what you need
- By becoming a member you can save 25% off retail
Yes, I really, really love doTERRA (view my doTERRA buying options page here.). And I share them without shame because they have been SO beneficial to my family and countless others.
But what if you can only afford one oil at a time? While we live on a very tight budget, I have an essential oil budget in place so we can replace what we use and try new products. We’re blessed to now be debt-free and have very few expenses and consider this our “health insurance.”
However, I know some people have no extras in their budget and are barely scraping by who may only have a $100 to spend on food in a month (we’ve been there – it sucks). But you may have heard about the benefits of essential oils and know they can help your family live a simpler, healthier life.
Best Essential Oils for a Tight Budget
When my mom asked me a few weeks ago which essential oils I had to have on hand on all times, I had to think a bit. There were so many oils I used and loved, it was hard for me to decide. Until I ran out of all my favorite oils in the same month. Now I can tell you with certainty which are my must-haves. (I also carry all of the following oils but oregano in my purse at all times.)
To read more about these essential oils and how to use them, visit my post on my top essential oils.
The calming essential oil. We use lavender essential oil a LOT to help calm our crazy kids and induce peaceful sleep. I also use it to relieve stress and apply it neat to burns and wounds – it helps take the pain away very quickly.
Oregano essential oil doesn’t come out much in our house, mainly because we don’t get sick often. When we do, however, oregano plays an important part in helping us heal. It’s also an excellent oil to use with melaleuca and lemon as part of a monthly digestive cleansing regime.
I love citrus scents, especially doTERRA’s lemon. It smells just like a fresh lemon. I use it in my house for degreasing and cleaning. It’s also great to help lift your mood and detoxify. Recently, I found that it’s great for water retention, sore throats and coughs and gassy bellies.
doTERRA’s peppermint smells SO good. It’s the oil that sold me on this company. I’ve used it to help relieve nausea, increase energy and ease headaches.
doTERRA makes an essential oil introductory kit with 5 mL bottles of lavender, lemon and peppermint essential oils that costs less than $30. It’s a great gift and a wonderful way to start using the essential oils.
If Your Budget Allows
The following are a little more expensive than the ones above, but still oils that I consider essential to keep on hand – if your budget allows.
DigestZen is my go-to oil for upset stomachs, whether it’s from a stomach bug or if I ate something I shouldn’t have. I love that it works so quickly and many an essential oil skeptic has been won over with this wonderful blend.
I think of this blend as my immune system supporter. I apply it daily as a defense against illness, use it liberally when we are sick and use it with lemon and melaleuca to keep things clean at home. I also diffuse it at night during cold & flu season.
This essential oil works very well at clearing up coughs and helping you breathe during a cold. I use it diluted on my kids’ chests when they need it and just put a few drops straight on my own. It’s also great to use in a diffuser at night.
This is now one of my favorite essential oils. I use it regularly to relieve stress and deal with any headaches that might pop up. It also gets added to my baths with lavender and epsom salts for a super relaxing experience. However, it is one of doTERRA’s more expensive essential oils.
If it’s in your budget or you can save up for a while
The Family Physician Kit includes all of the above essential oils, as well as a bottle of Deep Blue, which is great for muscle and joint pain. You can either buy the kit retail or become a member to get the Family Physician + Slim & Sassy Enrollment kit. The latter costs $16.67 less, includes membership, an extra 15 mL oil (doTERRA’s metabolic blend) and enables you to get 25% off all future orders.
Coming Soon Here Now
I’ve had an idea for a few months and I think it’s time to test it out.
When I was at doTERRA’s convention last month, I got a handy keychain thingy that holds 8 sample vials of essential oils. Each sample vial holds 30-45 drops, depending on the oil. It’s really handy and enables me to have my top essential oils on hand when I’m away from the house. (You know, those ones I just talked about.)
Because I know some of you are also on a tight budget or want to try out these essential oils before you invest in a larger kit, I will soon be offering an essential oil sampler set!
You’ll get the doTERRA sample holder keychain with filled sample vials of:
- On Guard
The kit won’t be more than $50 (including shipping) and is GREAT way to try out all of these awesome oils. When you buy it, I’ll also email you a PDF with instructions on using the different essential oils.
