This time of year is busy! My girls are involved in several extracurricular activities that all seem to pile up in January and February – archery practice, ballet class and parks & rec basketball practices and games.
Often, during these couple of months, they’re not in bed until after 9 pm. and maybe not asleep until quite a while later. They need to get to sleep as soon as possible after their heads hit the pillow.
My husband, the 7th of 8 children shared a bunk bed with his brother. He tells of his older brother’s exasperation when he would rhythmically thump his foot while loudly humming Elvis’s, “Love Me Tender,” until his brother had enough and punched him.
While this hasn’t happened with my girls (thank goodness!), they still share a bunk bed. And sometimes when your sister is humming a little lullaby to herself, twiddling her stuff animals and trying to get the covers just right, it’s really hard to relax enough to get to sleep!
We usually have a lavender blend in the diffuser at night, but I was looking for a topical blend to rub on the bottoms of their feet, to help them get to sleep more quickly and maybe even sleep more soundly. (Did you know that the bottoms of your feet have over 4000 pores and are very receptive to the uptake of essential oils?)
This week, we’re trying the Bunk Bed Blend.
After a couple of nights, the girls seem to be getting to sleep sooner (although basketball games tend to wear them out too) and sleep pretty soundly. They have reported a few crazy dreams, although I’m not sure that I can attribute that to the essential oil blend. We’ll have to see if that continues or not and report back.
Jana’s Bunk Bed Blend
- 20 drops lavender essential oil
- 20 drops orange essential oil
- 10 drops clary sage essential oil
- 10 drops chamomile essential oil
- 5 drops frankincense essential oil
Cap and shake gently to mix everything up. Apply to the bottoms of the feet before bedtime.
