Bunk Bed Blend : Essential Oils for Restful Sleep

Today, Jana of Jana’s Apothecary is sharing an essential oil blend she uses to help her girls get to sleep at night after a busy day. Enjoy!

Bunk Bed Blend. Essential oil blend to help you get to sleep easier.

This time of year is busy! My girls are involved in several extracurricular activities that all seem to pile up in January and February – archery practice, ballet class and parks & rec basketball practices and games.

Often, during these couple of months, they’re not in bed until after 9 pm. and maybe not asleep until quite a while later. They need to get to sleep as soon as possible after their heads hit the pillow.

My husband, the 7th of 8 children shared a bunk bed with his brother.  He tells of his older brother’s exasperation when he would rhythmically thump his foot while loudly humming Elvis’s, “Love Me Tender,” until his brother had enough and punched him.

While this hasn’t happened with my girls (thank goodness!), they still share a bunk bed. And sometimes when your sister is humming a little lullaby to herself, twiddling her stuff animals and trying to get the covers just right, it’s really hard to relax enough to get to sleep!

We usually have a lavender blend in the diffuser at night, but I was looking for a topical blend to rub on the bottoms of their feet, to help them get to sleep more quickly and maybe even sleep more soundly.  (Did you know that the bottoms of your feet have over 4000 pores and are very receptive to the uptake of essential oils?)

This week, we’re trying the Bunk Bed Blend.

After a couple of nights, the girls seem to be getting to sleep sooner (although basketball games tend to wear them out too) and sleep pretty soundly.  They have reported a few crazy dreams, although I’m not sure that I can attribute that to the essential oil blend.  We’ll have to see if that continues or not and report back.

In a 10 mL roller bottle, add the following essential oils (learn more about the essential oils I recommend):

  • 20 drops lavender essential oil
  • 20 drops orange essential oil
  • 10 drops clary sage essential oil
  • 10 drops chamomile essential oil
  • 5 drops frankincense essential oil

Cap and shake gently to mix everything up. Apply to the bottoms of the feet before bedtime.

Sweet dreams!

What is your carrier oil? If these are EOs without added oil you could have dangerous reactions.

Do you have a method/system for followers questions? I hate to comment on an unrelated post but finding you in the last 24 hours has encouraged me to change my ways and make my first initial purchases to begun some DIY.

With that being said, I have a couple specific questions before I feel like I can move forward.

    Thank you!!

You are putting about a 35% dilution blend of essential oils on your little ones’ feet. The recommended dilution for children is 2%, about 4 drops total of essential oils in 10ml of carrier oil. 25% is the highest recommended dilution rate and that and only recommended for short term use for a specific health need. I would mix your blend in a different bottle and put 4 drops of your blend in the 10 ml roller bottle then top off with carrier oil. Sounds like a great blend! ps I am a certified aroma therapist.

Nina, I am so glad that I found you. You are truly an inspiration. I was just reading your “about”. Such an adventure living in a RV converter bus. Tks to you I am starting to learn about essential oils. I saw a deal alert on Piping Rock. Do you know if their oils are ok to purchase? Tks for your input.
