Exactly one year ago, I made a decision that changed how we approach healthcare.
I joined doTERRA’s membership program so that I could get discounted access to business training. Frankly, I didn’t even care that I’d be getting essential oils each month. I was using essential oils for a couple of cleaning products already and figured I’d use what I got when the others ran out.
When I got the oils, however, I fell in love. They smelled better than the ones I’d been using and were so much more effective that I got rid of those other oils. My husband even noticed a difference in the quality. I was pretty stoked about that.
Intrigued, I began researching and using essential oils for our wellness.
Since then, I’ve been using essential oils every day to manage our healthcare. So far we’ve used them for:
- Treating an ear infection
- Household cleaning
- Preventing colds
- Decreasing mosquito bite itchiness
- Bug spray
- Increasing energy
- Cleansing
- Treating cold sores
- Fast healing from the flu
- Reducing stress
- Calming kiddos
- Improving sleep
- Getting rid of headaches
- Soothing upset tummies
- Treating burns
- Making home made soap smell delicious
I know I’ve used them for more, but this is all that’s coming to mind right now. But that’s quite a lot! I still use a few herbs on occasion, but I just love that all of my oils fit nicely in a small wooden box.
I wish I could say the same about the bags of herbs in my attic…
I’ve been effectively turned into an essential oil fanatic. Here are a few more reasons why:
Simplicity
Every day, I apply a few different essential oils to myself and the kids:
- Balance - Specific to doTERRA, this blend contains oils that are geared toward the central nervous system. Helpful if you feel unsettled and/or need a sense of well-being.
- Lavender - Well-known for it’s calming effect, it’s also good for healing cuts, burns and other wounds.
- Frankincense - Relaxes and uplifts the mood. Also helpful for cuts and wounds and reduces scarring.
- OnGuard - Another doTERRA-specific blend, it helps boost the immune system, protecting the body from illness.
I apply a blend of all of these oils to the bottoms of my feet morning and night. At first, I did that by opening each bottle and applying a drop to each foot. Now, I have a little roll-on bottle that I blended the oils in that I can simply roll across the bottoms of my feet. Much easier.
Each morning, I put a drop of frankincense and lavender on my palm, rub my hands together, cup them over my nose and inhale deeply. Then I rub the blend on my forehead and the back of my neck.
I also have a roll-on bottle with plain lavender that the kids use at bedtime. And I’ve put some oils into cute little vials to keep in my purse. I’ve got DigestZen for times when I eat something that doesn’t agree with me, Past Tense for headaches and Lemon for degreasing.
Budget-Friendliness
Many people look at the cost of therapeutic-grade essential oils and say, “but that’s so expensive!” Not really.
It’s like getting started with cloth diapers – the initial investment of a few hundred dollars seems like so much compared to a bag of disposables for $15. But. Your initial investment will get you enough nappies to diaper your baby for years (and any babies that come after that). That’s huge savings.
It’s the same with essential oils. Since they are so potent, you only need 1-2 drops of essential oil per use. That’s just a few pennies per drop.
I budget $100 per month for ordering from doTERRA. That includes supplements and essential oils. I count this as our “health insurance deductible.” Because this order processes automatically each month, I earn free oils. Win!
Effectiveness
The thing that sold my husband on essential oils, was DigestZen, an essential oil blend. (He says just DigestZen – always the devil’s advocate
) He had a bad stomach ache one day and finally gave in and tried some DigestZen. He put some on his tongue and his stomach and ten minutes later, was shocked at how good he felt.
There was also the time when Isaiah crawled in bed with us and proceeded to wiggle and moan for hours. Ian got up and brought back some lavender essential oil. He put it on the three of us and Isaiah quickly settled into restful sleep. We soon followed suit.
And then there was the night Isaac was crying because his ear was in so much pain. After I convinced him to let me touch him, I applied melaleuca oil behind his ear and lavender on his forehead to fall asleep. He was so happy the next morning when he woke up and the pain was gone.
Simple, effective and budget-friendly – three of my favorite words.

I love using essential oils. Today I used a calm blend in a vaporizer and clary sage in my bath. I have just won some oils from doTERRA, but I haven’t tried them out yet. xxoo

Essential oils from doTerra are amazing and have helped my family so much! I love being able to offer these oils and tell my story.
I no longer take an anti depressant or anxiety medicine. We fought the flu virus (a bad one) with nothing else but these oils. Cold sores, stomach issues, sleep issues….. I will never use another oil and I’m proud to sell/offer such amazing oils to others. Thanks Nina!!!!
Woot! Woot! That’s so awesome, Gina!
