I. Am. Weird. Really weird. I don’t really fit into a box. If I were forced to label myself, I would go with “hippy conservative.” I’m even thinking about dreading my hair. But I haven’t always been this way. There was a point when I wanted to fit into the mainstream. Blending into the crowd was ideal. But that seems like a hundred years ago.
Have you ever prayed for direction and felt God’s divine intervention shift you onto a new path? Well I prayed for it. And it was less of a shift and more of a shove down the rabbit hole and into a new, crazy reality. In this new reality, I get stared at. A lot. I’ve been called crazy. A lot. And yet, I am constantly amazed at the way God brings me to something new, helps me get used to and incorporate it and then moves me on to something even further from my comfort zone.
I’ll expand on this later, but for now I’m just sharing it because sometimes it’s hard. Does it sway me from my passion for Jesus, home birthing, breastfeeding, homeschooling, simplifying, frugality, green-living, homemaking, microfarming and having a big family? No, not a bit. But it wears on me a bit to see people nudge their friends and point at me because I’m alone with four kids at Costco and one of them is in a baby pouch. Sometimes I feel sorry for myself when I’m with people who sing the praises of public school and refer to home schoolers as freaks. And I can’t count how many times I’ve cited research and explained birthing history to people who tell me that having my baby at home isn’t safe.
It’s hard. But I find that when I meet with resistance and choose to be faithful and persist that I come out on the other side with a renewed passion and sense that I’m on the right track. I know that the way I’m supposed to go is not back out the rabbit hole, but deeper into the wonderful reality God has intended for me. And in case you see me out grocery shopping next week – no, the girls aren’t twins, yes, I have my hands full and no, I wouldn’t have it any other way.PAID ENDORSEMENT DISCLOSURE: In order for me to support my blogging activities, I may receive monetary compensation or other types of remuneration for my endorsement, recommendation, testimonial and/or link to any products or services from this blog.
