A couple years ago, I stumbled upon a “green” blog called Walk Slowly Live Wildly. I was completely sucked into Sara’s story and all of the excellent information she provided about living more sustainably, minimizing possessions and pursuing wellness. I also really love her dreadlocks. She graciously agreed to take a little time away from her super busy family (she and her husband Matt have two daughters, Bella and Lucy) and answer a few questions for me. In honor of this, I’m also doing a special giveaway! Details follow the interview.
For a while you and your sweet little family toured the country in an RV. What did you enjoy most about that experience?
Definitely the people we met and the friendships that still remain strong to this day. It was truly a life changing experience in that we were able to jump into the lives of so many different types of families with all different kinds of ideals and beliefs. It made the world a very small place…and yet very large at the same time. In my opinion, travel is essential to a fulfilling life!
When did living more intentionally start for you? Was it a specific moment that you can remember or a series of events?
I started making a lot of changes when Bella was about 6 months old. I started questioning what I was eating, the cleaning products I was using, and how we were living in general. Once I started making those changes, it was easy to continue. Here is a link to my story about living more “green”: And another link to our story of downsizing.
How do you make time for yourself and what are your favorite things to do during Mommy time?
My favorite time is in the early morning, although with a nursing toddler that is a little difficult right now. I try to carve out at least a few hours each week where I can just sit by myself and be quiet. I like to read, blog, edit photos, or just sit and stare at the sky If that isn’t possible, I will sometimes sneak outside and sit by myself. A little silence is all I need to refresh my soul
What actions do you and Matt take to keep your marriage strong with two little ones to take care of?
Living in a very small space is a sure way to strengthen your marriage…because you are always with each other! There is no office/basement/man-room to retreat to. Every part of life is lived TOGETHER. And we like it that way. We don’t have a lot of individual hobbies and we try to spend all free time together as a family. We also believe that physical touch is very important to a healthy marriage and we work hard to connect with each other in that way whenever possible.
Thank you Sara!
And now, a giveaway! Le giveaway is now closed.
Some time ago, Sara talked about a book a friend of hers had written called The Handbook of Vintage Remedies. It was full of different herbal remedies as well as profiles of commonly used herbs. It quickly became one of my favorite resources.
I have an extra copy and I want to give it away to one of my readers. I’m also going to throw in a bag of my Herbal Bath Tea. That way you can relax in a nice, hot bath and enjoy your new book!
You can enter four different ways:
- Leave a comment with your favorite herb or herbal remedy or any herbal information you want to know more about.
- Join the newsletter and leave a comment letting me know that you joined.
- Follow me on twitter and tweet about the giveaway. You can just copy and paste this text: I just entered a giveaway for a copy of The Handbook of Vintage Remedies and some herbal bath tea from @shalommama http://ow.ly/6iV9Y! Then leave another comment letting me know you did.
- Visit Sara’s blog and soak in the beautiful photos and colors. Then choose one way to follow her from the upper left-corner (or all 3 – she has great updates!) and let me know that you did.
I’ll randomly select the winner on Tuesday, Sept. 6th at 9 pm PST.
And the winner is: entry #6 – Jennie!
Lastly, thank you so much to everyone who reads my blog. It means so much to me that I’m offering helpful information and that you enjoy reading it.Pin It
