I have a secret …

Before I started making my own green cleaners, I really didn’t care about all of the chemicals in the ones I’d been buying from the store.

There, I said it.

Sure, they gave me headaches and I almost paid the ultimate stupid tax by mixing bleach and ammonia (thanks for saving me, love!), but I just figured I needed toxic chemicals for a clean house.

Really, the reason I started making stuff myself was so we could save money and get out of debt as quickly as possible. (We did it, yay!)

However, as I researched, I learned more about the stuff that’s in commercial cleaners and was appalled at what I read. I learned about deformed animals, infertility and birth defects.

I also learned that our bodies are constantly being bombarded with dangerous chemicals:

Right now as you read this page, there are about 700 chemicals coursing through your body, many of which likely came from the cleaning supplies that line store shelves.¹

Seven hundred. How is that even remotely ok? These chemicals disrupt hormones, cause cancer and create a whole host of problems not only for people, but animals and the environment as well.

For what? Cleaner floors? Shinier windows? Convenience? Frankly, it ticks me off a little. Ok, a lot.

And the worst thing of all?

There’s no need for these toxic cleaners. We can make our own, easily, with a few simple ingredients. And we can save money and improve our health at the same time. If that’s not motivating, I don’t know what is.

But how do we do it?

DIY Non-Toxic Cleaning Recipes

Thankfully, there are lots of resources out there to help you out. Green blogs abound on the web to help you navigate the world of DIY non-toxic cleaning. And while I love free resources, sometimes, it’s worth it to invest in a good book or two.

Today I want to tell you about DIY Non-Toxic Cleaning Recipes, a book I’m now recommending to everyone making their own green cleaners.

When I found out that I’d be getting this book as part of the End of Summer e-book bundle (sorry, that’s over now), I got really excited. Because the cover is beautiful. And it’s from Mommypotamus, so I knew it had to be good.

Does it deliver? Yes, yes it does.
